Save $150 on TCL’s 65″ Google TV Powered 5 Series TV

With the recent announcement of Amazon Prime Day returning on July 12 and 13, you might be thinking that the best deals on things like TVs are yet to come. While there are certainly some great discounts to take advantage of, we’ve got some ready for you right here and now.

Today, you can get the best price yet on the 65-inch TCL 5 Series TV, which is discounted to $549.99 at Amazon and Best Buy. This model comes equipped with Google TV for all your streaming needs, and somewhat bucks the trend of TCL sets shipping with Roku’s software — though that version also gets the same $150 discount if you prefer. Normally priced at $699.99, the TCL 5 series offers great value at full price, including support for Dolby Atmos and Dolby Vision. Google Assistant voice control is also built into the Google TV version, but if you don’t like your TV having microphones listening to that key phrase, there’s a physical switch on the back to turn it off. Ultimately, at $549.99, this is a lot of TV for the money, undercutting its Mini LED 6 series enthusiast by nearly half.

TCL 5 Series (S546, 65″)

The 5 Series S546 from TCL has a beautiful QLED panel, supports a variable refresh rate and uses the Google TV platform. It also comes with support for Dolby Atmos, Dolby Vision and HDR10+, just like the latest 6 series.

If you need a tablet for a kid, and you apparently find your kid “pro” enough, Amazon’s Fire 7 Kids Pro is now half the price at Best Buy and Amazon. The small tablet normally costs $99.99, but you can get it in one of four colors/designs for $49.99. You don’t pay much for the technology, but in a way you pay with some inconvenience: this 2019 tablet uses a micro USB port. The newer Fire 8 and Fire 10 Kids tablets have recently been upgraded with USB-C, newer processors, and more RAM, but this price undercuts them all. And like other Amazon Kids devices, it comes in a resilient case and has a two-year warranty to cover accidental damage.

Amazon Fire 7 Kids Pro

This 7-inch tablet is intended for children ages six and up, with a reinforced cover to protect against drops and a two-year warranty that covers accidental damage. It has a micro USB port and 16 GB of built-in storage, expandable up to 512 GB via microSD.

Amazon is running a daily price deal on a two-pack of its Eero Pro 6 mesh Wi-Fi routers. You can get the two routers for $319, a saving of $80 off the regular price. This deal usually comes around every month or so, and while it’s possible it could go lower for Prime Day in just under a month, the lowest we’ve ever seen was $299 around the holidays for the same combo.

A newer model of Eero routers is now available, although it costs $499 for a comparable two-pack. It’s nice to be future-proof, but that’s a bit of a tough pill to swallow. In the meantime, these last-generation Eero Pro 6 routers can cover a home of up to 3,500 square feet and hit gigabit speeds, as well as support for Wi-Fi 6. They’re compact and easy to set up, with great coverage. Two of these routers should be enough for most average-sized homes, unless you have a particularly tricky layout or very thick walls. • Woot has USB-A to Lightning cables for iPhones and older iPads from Amazon Basics, ranging from $4.99 to $8.99, and you can get an additional $3 off at checkout when you use the code CABLES† There are multiple colors on offer, and size increments of one foot, three feet and six feet.

  • Best Buy has a Nintendo-branded SanDisk 400GB microSD for $79.99 ($100 off). That’s enough storage space to expand a Nintendo Switch for many games. Honestly, this isn’t a better value than SanDisk cards without Nintendo’s name and logo on them, but how many SD cards have a blue Mario Kart shell on them?

  • Woot has some discounts on Razer and SteelSeries PC accessories, including gaming mice, keyboards, and mouse/desk mats. You can get the Razer Gigantus v2 cloth gaming mouse pad big enough to cover your own desk for $34.99 ($15 off). But maybe take some measurements of your space so it doesn’t turn into a tablecloth.

  • The Lenovo Smart Clock Essential with Google Assistant is $24.99 (half price) at Lowe’s. It’s hard to beat the simplicity of this smart clock when all you need is a bedside table with some clever stuff like weather conditions and alarms. Read our review
